Céline Dion Sings and Dances Barefoot on Top of Car Surrounded by Fans Outside Hotel After Paris Residency Show

The singer shared a special moment with a crowd of admirers after the third show in her comeback residency on Sept. 18

Céline Dion is connecting with her fans in Paris.

The 58-year-old singer kept the festivities going after the latest show in her comeback residency on Friday, Sept. 18, by singing and dancing barefoot on top of a car for a crowd of fans. The moment, which fans captured from several angles, happened outside of a Paris hotel after Dion’s concert at Plenitude Arena (formerly the Paris La Défense Arena) in nearby Nanterre, France.

Dion hopped up on the parked black vehicle, removed her slippers and sat on the hood with her legs crossed in front of a crowd of admirers who had gathered, the fan-captured footage shows. 

Upon hearing her 1995 track “Pour Que Tu M’aimes Encore” blasting, she then began singing along with the track, swaying to the beat, tapping her feet and conducting the crowd of fans, who filmed her and sang along.

At one point, she could be seen lying across the hood of the car and flipping over to face down before laughing and getting up to stand on the vehicle. She continued clapping, dancing and enthusiastically singing along with her fans before bidding them adieu with a hand-heart gesture.

Individuals who appeared to be members of Dion’s security team stood nearby in fan-captured videos as Dion shared the moment with her fans.

In addition to going barefoot for the moment, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer was dressed casually, having swapped her elaborate residency ensembles for loose-fitting pants and a bomber jacket. She wore her hair pulled back into a low bun.

Friday’s concert was the third of Dion’s 26-show residency. She takes the stage again on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The fan moment comes nearly a week after the singer returned to the stage for her first full concert in over six years on Saturday, Sept. 12 the musician’s career was sidelined first by the COVID-19 pandemic and then by her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis.

During the milestone show, Dion broke down in tears moments after taking the stage, and she later addressed fans in an emotional moment about her “promise” to return to the stage for them.

Dion took a beat seconds into her set opener, 1998’s “On Ne Change Pas,” after becoming visibly choked up. She appeared to wipe tears while pausing, and could also be seen putting a hand to her chest and putting her hands together, seemingly in a gesture to thank fans.

“There are many of you here tonight from all over the world,” she told fans shortly after in the same show. “Thank you so very much for coming. If it’s your first time in Paris. I hope you fall in love with it, just like I did. Finally, it’s amazing we are all together.”

She continued, “I made a promise. I made a promise to come back, to be back on stage. So here I am, singing for you and singing for me, singing life! Thank you so very much for your support, your patience and if I may say so: I am everything I am because you loved me.”

In a Harper’s BAZAAR cover story published ahead of her Paris residency, Dion said the shows are her way of showing gratitude to her devoted fanbase. “It’s been so long, I would like to offer them something to show how I’ve missed them,” she told the outlet.

Dion’s last full concert took place in March 2020, at New Jersey’s Prudential Center. After the show, the remainder of the tour was halted by the onset of COVID-19, and the rescheduled shows were later canceled due to health complications related to Dion’s stiff-person syndrome diagnosis.

In 2022, she was diagnosed with the rare and progressive autoimmune and neurological disorder — which can cause muscle rigidity, mobility issues, painful spasms and shortness of breath.

To prepare for her Paris shows, she told Harper’s BAZAAR she’s been taking new medication, doing physical and vocal therapy and immunotherapy, along with other exercises.
