Selena Gomez Says She and ‘Joyful’ Husband Benny Blanco Are Still in ‘Honeymoon Stage’ Ahead of First Anniversary

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are still basking in their blissful newlywed glow.

In PEOPLE’s latest cover story, the Rare Beauty founder — who’s being honored with the inaugural Beauty Impact Award for her mental health advocacy — opens up about her first year of marriage, saying they’re “still in the honeymoon stage.”

“I love it. It just feels so wonderful to have a partner that actually genuinely listens and just meets you right where you are, whatever that mood or day looks like, and that’s all I could ask for,” says Gomez, 34. “I just need him, and I love him, so it’s pretty great.”

After first meeting as teenagers, the couple went on to collaborate on music together before their friendship took a romantic turn in 2023.

“It is pretty spectacular,” she says of his infectious personality. “He is a very joyful human. He’s very fun, spontaneous and he loves to talk!”

The Only Murders in the Building star teamed up with Blanco, 38, for their 2025 album I Said I Love You First, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and earned a Best Dance Pop Recording nomination at the Grammys.

“He happens to be extremely more advanced in that world than I am, and I really appreciate his advice and his guidance, but he never took control of anything,” she says of being in the studio with Blanco. “If anything, I wanted him to and he just said, ‘No, I want your decisions to be your decisions,’ and it was very easy.

“I don’t think I would make every album with him, but I loved it, and we have a memory now. We’ve done something together,” she adds.

While guest-hosting Today with Jenna & Sheinelle earlier this week, Blanco also spoke about their upcoming first anniversary, saying it came up “so quickly.”

“I was literally just talking to Selena yesterday cause we’re about to celebrate our one year and I was like, ‘What even happened?’ It’s like done already,” said the music producer. “We are so lucky and fortunate that we’re just each other’s yin and yang. Everything is so easy, and she’s my best friend. Sometimes I get home and I feel like we’re gossiping about the same thing. It’s my best friend that I get to spend the rest of my life with.”
