Rosalía In Early Talks To Join Alma Har’el’s Stacked Family Drama ‘Wet’, Would Be Singer’s Biggest Film Role To Date — The Dish

Here’s a hot one. Spanish Grammy winner Rosalía is in early talks to join Alma Har’el’s buzzy family drama Wet, we can reveal.

There’s no deal yet so things might change, but it’s understood to be heading in the right direction. Should a deal make, it would mark the pop megastar’s biggest film role to date.

Also in talks for the movie are Oscar winner Javier Bardem, Mission: Impossible and Dune star Rebecca Ferguson, Heated Rivalry‘s man-of-the-moment Connor Storrie and Marty Supreme breakout Odessa A’zion.

Rosalía made her screen debut with a cameo in Pedro Almodóvar’s 2019 movie Pain and Glory. Earlier this year she scored her first TV appearance with a supporting role in the third season of HBO’s Euphoria. We hear she’d have a key part in Wet.

Patrick Wachsberger’s 193 is handling international sales at the TIFF market, where it’ll be one of the hottest properties for buyers. Fifth Season is due to finance and produce alongside Chris Leggett, Linden Productions’ Riva Marker, and Har’el. The hope is to shoot in Spain early next year.

Little has been revealed about the Wet plot, but we can confirm the original script comes from Har’el and Christian Stangeby based on his spec and is said to be in the vein of HBO’s Succession and the Oscar-nominated Palme d’Or winner Triangle of Sadness. The story is said to take part on a superyacht. If the script gets close to those projects, buyers likely would be in thrall.

Har’el’s last feature was her debut, Honey Boy, which was written by and starred Shia LaBeouf. The 2019 film, which was picked up by Amazon, garnered largely positive notices and played at festivals including Sundance and TIFF.

Genre-bending singer-songwriter Rosalía is a two-time Grammy winner, 11-time Latin Grammy winner and four-time MTV Video Music Award winner. She has 13 No. 1 singles in her home country, the most for a local female artist.

Reps, producers and seller 193 declined to comment.
