A handful of celebrities were stuck in Albuquerque, N.M., on Wednesday after their flight from Los Angeles to New York was diverted.
The star-studded passenger list included Andrew Garfield, Nick Robinson, Adults star Owen Thiele, Love Island USA contestant Dylan Wrona, and singer Mark Ambor. The Delta flight, which was carrying 235 people, had safely made an emergency landing after a smoky smell permeated the cabin.
Entertainment Weekly reached out to representatives for Garfield, Robinson, Thiele, Wrona, and Ambor for comment.
“We apologize to our customers on Delta Flight 958 (LAX to JFK) on Sept 9, which diverted to Albuquerque due to a smoky odor in the aircraft,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement to EW on Thursday. “The aircraft landed uneventfully and our teams worked to reaccommodate customers as quickly as possible to their final destinations.”
After the flight was diverted, Thiele began documenting his unexpected trip to Albuquerque, which featured him befriending fellow stranded passengers. He also shared that there were quite a few celebs onboard the plane with him.
“Andrew Garfield on my flight. If plane went down it would’ve said Andrew Garfield and others,” he wrote in a series of Instagram Story posts on Thursday, adding, “Nick Robinson here too. Andrew Garfield, Nick Robinson and others.”
He then shared photos of himself with his new friends, including Ambor, at the Albuquerque International Sunport. His posts went viral after fans pointed out that he was emulating his Adults character Anton, who had an entire storyline about being a “friend slut,” or someone who can’t stop making new friends.
“This was an experience,” one person wrote in an X post reacting to the debacle. “Owen Thiele is Anton irl.”
After leaving to get drinks and take an impromptu trip to Dave & Buster’s, Thiele and the rest of his group returned to the airport nine hours after the initial diversion to get on a new flight. After boarding, he shared they had waited on the tarmac for an hour due to a weight issue on the plane. On the bright side, he noted, “Nick Robinson [was] sitting next to me.”
Not everyone embarked on a side quest while in Albuquerque, as Wrona shared his journey waiting around in the airport. The Love Island USA star joked that “the universe hates when I travel” in his own Instagram Story on Wednesday.
“Airport bar closed,” he later shared. “What am I supposed to do for 5.5 hours. Someone help.”

While he may not have been able to get a drink, he did get a picture with Garfield before the two got onto a new flight to New York.
“Our plane is here to save us,” Wrona quipped alongside a photo of himself with the Social Network star.
Luckily, it appears that everyone made it to their original destination in one piece, as Thiele shared a final Story post about the saga from New York City on Thursday.
“Thank u for following along lol i love my new friends we’re all in a group chat,” he wrote.
