Katy Perry Announces New Single ‘Watch It Burn’: Hear the Preview

Katy Perry is officially revealing the cover art and release date for her new single, “Watch It Burn.”
“Watch It Burn June 25th,” she captioned the cover reveal, featuring a close-up on her face in front of a glowing light, along with a cigarette emoji.
The 41-year-old Teenage Dream pop superstar previously previewed the upcoming song in an interview with Justin Tranter for Unfamous The Podcast, released on Wednesday (June 17).
“In ‘Watch It Burn’ I am wrestling with my darkness but last year was pretty tough,” she explained.
“I have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life over things where I should be f–king angry about. What I’ve done is I pushed it down, but I should be f–king angry. I’m allowed to be angry for a f–king moment,” she continued.
“So instead of falling into’ ‘Woe is me,’ I just was like, ‘Okay, let’s just feel this f–king pain,’ let’s feel this pain, let’s feel this anger and let’s move on, let’s learn from it also,” Katy explained.
You can also hear a preview of the song throughout the clip, as well as a teaser she posted on TikTok.

[Lyrics from live performance]
[Verse 1]
For years, you fed me only crumbs
You paid me only dust
Said I was too hard to love
For years, I tried to rise above
Was only light and love
But now I don’t give a fuck
[Pre-Chorus]
You know I gave and I gave
Now I’m giving up
There’s nothing more you can take
No, I don’t want to cause a scene
But give me the gasoline
[Chorus]
Tonight’s the night, I light a match
Throw it hard behind my back
Gonna try to forgive and forget
Light a cigarette, and watch it burn
In the fire, I breathe in the ash
Gonna try to forgive and forget
Light a cigarette, and watch it burn
[Verse 2]
Thank you for showing me the pain
This was not a mistake
The mistake would be to stay
[Pre-Chorus]
You know I gave and I gave
Now I’m giving up
There’s nothing more you can take
No, I don’t want to cause a scene
But give me the gasoline
[Chorus]
Tonight’s the night, I light a match
Throw it hard behind my back
Gonna try to forgive and forget
Light a cigarette, and watch it burn
In the fire, I breathe in the ash
Gonna try to forgive and forget
Light a cigarette, and watch it burn
[Outro]
I’m gonna get what I deserve
I’m sorry, I know that it hurts
Finally I put myself first
And watch it burn
I’m gonna get what I deserve
I’m sorry, I know that it hurts
Finally I put myself first
And watch it burn
