Jim Carrey Will Star in an Upcoming The Jetsons Live-Action Movie

Rumors first swirled around Carrey’s attachment to the project last fall

Jim Carrey is ready for space.

In its Q2 letter sent to shareholders on Thursday, Aug. 6, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed that the actor, 64, will star in a live-action The Jetsons film, set to premiere beyond 2027.

In October 2025, Variety reported that Carrey was in talks to lead the film, with Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow and co-writer Joe Epstein also attached to the project.

The Jetsons, from Hanna-Barbera Productions and ABC, aired beginning in 1962, with several revivals until 1987. A counterpart to The Flintstones, it centered on the titular nuclear family — George, Jane, Judy and Elroy Jetson, as well as their robotic maid Rosie and Great Dane Astro — who lived in the Space Age.

The sci-fi animated show’s characters have appeared in TV movies, comic books, video games and more, culminating in the 1990 theatrical release of Jetsons: The Movie, featuring the voices of George O’Hanlon and Mel Blanc.

The family-friendly project continues a streak for Carrey, who has starred in three Sonic the Hedgehog movies as Dr. Robotnik from 2020 to 2024.

Earlier this summer, it was revealed that the actor was in talks to reprise his role as the Grinch in a long-rumored sequel to 2000’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Ron Howard is expected to return as director after helming the 2000 holiday comedy, which starred Carrey as Dr. Seuss‘s iconic character. Howard, 72, will also produce alongside his Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Grazer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 

The director and Imagine Entertainment confirmed the news via Instagram on June 18, with a photo of Carrey in Grinch mode on set. “He’s a mean one… 💚 A sequel to How the Grinch Stole Christmas is in development,” they captioned the post.
