Inside Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster’s ‘Quiet Summer’ Together in North Carolina: They ‘Wanted to Get Away’

Jackman and Foster are taking time away from their busy New York City lives, according to a source

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are having “a quiet summer together” in North Carolina, a source tells PEOPLE exclusively. 

“Hugh and Sutton wanted to get away from the city,” they say of the couple, linked since January 2025.

The X-Men star, 57, and Younger alum, 51, reside primarily in New York City. Since starring in Broadway’s 2022 revival of The Music Man together there, they’ve supported each other at events for their various projects. 

“Hugh has told friends he believes Sutton is the one and he admires her spirit and talent,” continues the source. The Australian actor “has been writing, reading scripts and spending time with Sutton outside.”

Foster “has a group of friends there” in North Carolina, adds the insider, “so they have a fun social life as well.” The actress’ 9-year-old daughter Emily, whom she shares with estranged husband Ted Griffin, “has spent time with” the couple. 

Jackman and Foster, who were friends for years before their relationship turned romantic, were photographed holding hands during an outing in Los Angeles in January 2025. 

The Deadpool & Wolverine star and his ex-wife Deborra-lee Furness, who share adult children Oscar and Ava, announced their breakup in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage, finalizing their divorce in June. Foster filed for divorce in October 2024 from Griffin after 10 years of marriage. 

The pair were recently spotted on a Broadway date night together at CATS: The Jellicle Ball in April. Foster also made a Met Gala debut alongside Jackman in May. 

A source close to Foster told PEOPLE last October that she and Jackman have “built a strong foundation of trust… Both are feeling giddy and happy and are excited to share their future together.”

Following a busy stretch of releasing Song Sung Blue, The Sheep Detectives and The Death of Robin Hood in theaters, Jackman has a new screen adaptation of Treasure Island ahead. 

Foster’s upcoming credits include the horror film Rule of Three and comedy film The Best is Yet to Come. She will play Loretta Lynn in Coal Miner’s Daughter, a new stage musical in development.
