George and Amal Clooney ‘Taking Shifts’ with Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber ‘So They Aren’t Alone’ After Son Presley’s Death: Sources

A source tells PEOPLE that the Clooneys, as well as other family friends, have been keeping close in the wake of Presley’s death

Following Presley Gerber’s shocking death on Sept. 20 at age 27, friends of his parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, have stayed close to the grieving parents.

A source tells PEOPLE, “George, Amal [Clooney] and a few of their other close friends have been taking shifts staying with the family so they aren’t alone.”

George, who is Rande’s business partner in the tequila brand Casamigos, is “family,” according to a source close to Crawford.

“George and Amal joined the family in Los Angeles after learning of Presley’s death,” the source tells PEOPLE. “They’re helping with arrangements and whatever else the family needs. George has always been very close with both Kaia and Presley.”

Presley died of an apparent overdose and cardiac arrest. Per recordings obtained by PEOPLE, a call was dispatched to Santa Monica, Calif., police on Sept. 20 for a cardiac arrest in the 1000 block of Berkeley St. at 9:35 a.m., with another dispatch revealing that first responders were responding to an overdose at the address.

Presley died at a rehab facility, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records.

In the days following his death, a source close to Presley’s younger sister, Kaia Gerber, told PEOPLE that the whole family was in “total shock.”

“They are saddened beyond words,” the source shared. “Kaia loved that Presley was so open about his struggles; his family was so proud that he was finding strength in helping others.”

Another source close to Crawford told PEOPLE that the supermodel was completely “heartbroken” following her son’s death, adding that she was “completely in shock.”

“Presley was such a caring and charismatic person; he truly led with his heart and made people feel special and seen,” a source tells PEOPLE on Sept. 24. “Presley was sweet and easy to be around; the world is a little less kind now that he’s gone.”

Prior to his death, Presley spoke openly about his struggles with his mental health and drug use. He had started sharing Mental Health Mondays on Instagram. In a December 2025 that was later deleted, Presley candidly shared the prescription drugs he had been taking and openly discussed what he had been talking about with his doctors.

“I feel like honesty is the best policy…” Presley said, adding that he was taking a handful of medications, including Buprenorphine, Xanax and valium, to treat his “panic attacks” amid his mental health struggles and “loss.”

“The doctors say a lot of different things, so it’s kind of scary, but hopefully between my research and their research … and God, we can figure this out,” he said.

In the end, Presley said he hoped his openness in the video “reaches people in many ways.”
