Tom Brady used social media to send a “middle finger” to his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, after the supermodel welcomed a baby boy with her new husband, Joaquim Valente, according to a new book about the seven-time Super Bowl champion.

One month after Bündchen welcomed her first child with Valente in February 2025, Brady took to Instagram to seemingly send a message to his ex-wife. “Just over a month after the birth, Brady shared a photo of himself on Instagram — his preferred form of mass (and often cryptic) communication,” author Lars Anderson wrote in his new book, Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness.

Anderson continued, “In the color photograph, Brady’s right arm is extended and a ball has spiraled out of his hand, silhouetted by the sunset’s golden glow. Underneath, Brady wrote: ‘True Love’ — the verbatim phrase Gisele had repeatedly used to describe Brady’s relationship with football.”

The post apparently had “no ambiguity” to the people close to Brady, Anderson claimed in the book, which hits stands on Tuesday, Sept. 29. “As one friend described it, that was ‘the softest middle finger.’”

Reps for Brady, 49, and Bündchen, 46, did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment on Monday, Sept. 28.

Brady and Bündchen divorced in October 2022 after 13 years of marriage. They share two children: Benjamin, 16, and daughter Vivian, 13. Brady also shares son Jack, 19, with his ex, Bridget Moynahan.

Anderson’s book also claimed that Brady allegedly made a last-ditch effort to save his marriage in 2022, and his Buccaneers teammates and coaches grew concerned about his health after he lost nearly 20 pounds.

“It was very clear that the reason for the weight loss was the stress from the personal issues he was dealing with,” former Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians told Anderson, adding the quarterback “looked like a cancer patient with really good hair.”

Brady told the Buccaneers he had to “take care of some personal things” and requested a leave of absence from training camp. He missed 11 days “to make one final, desperate attempt to keep his family together,” according to an excerpt from Anderson’s book.

Once he returned to the team, Brady’s “spirit seemed more broken than before, as if the eleven days had not simply passed, but had instead carved deep canyons into his heart,” the author described.
