Kim Petras Defends Hunter Schafer Against ‘Gross’ Comments About Her Gender-Affirming Bottom Surgery

Kim Petras is speaking out to defend Hunter Schafer from the “gross” commentary on social media in response to her recent reveal that she underwent gender-affirming bottom surgery.

Mayo Clinic notes that bottom surgery “involves procedures that help better align the body with a person’s gender identity. Research has found that gender-affirming surgery can have a positive impact on well-being and sexual function.” The surgery “can involve the removal of sexual organs and the creation of new organs.”

Hunter, best known for her work on Euphoria, is a trans actress who came out as transgender in ninth grade and began transition as a teenager. She didn’t have the gender-affirming surgery until her mid-20s.

Kim, a trans singer, wrote on Twitter about how some people are being “gross” in their responses to the news.

“Reading some really weird ass **** on here about beautiful Hunter Schafer talking about getting vaginoplasty. And just wanna say it’s so brave of her to speak on this and it’s exposing so many of the gross ways in which trans women get fetishized,” Kim said.

She added, “The idea of someone aligning their body with how they feel on the inside and people saying YOU ARE WORTH LESS TO US NOW is what I wrote a song called brutalist about.”
