Aly Michalka & Spencer Sutherland to Make Broadway Debuts In ‘& Juliet’ as Anne Hathaway & Romeo!

Aly Michalka and Spencer Sutherland are heading to the Great White Way!

It was just announced on Wednesday (August 26) that both singers are joining the cast of & Juliet, making their Broadway debuts in the musical.

Aly will star as Anne Hathaway, taking over the role from Alison Luff, while Spencer will take on Romeo, taking over from Ben Jackson Walker.

“I’m beyond thrilled to be joining the company of & Juliet as Anne Hathaway,” Aly shared in a statement. “I’ve spent so much of my life performing and telling stories through music, film, and television, and the opportunity to bring that experience to a Broadway stage while challenging myself in a new way is incredibly exciting. I’m so grateful to be welcomed into this extraordinary company, and I hope you’ll come see us on Broadway this winter!”

“Stepping onto the biggest stage as Romeo is more than a dream come true, it’s a moment that I will carry with me for the rest of my life,” Spencer says. “A Broadway Debut only happens once, and this is very much a ‘pinch me’ moment. In the greatest city in the world!”

Spencer will make his debut in the show first, starting Tuesday, September 15th, and Aly will make hers starting November 3rd.

Aly & AJ cancel tour dates for Aly’s Broadway debut

With Aly heading to Broadway, this unfortunately means that upcoming Aly & AJ tour dates have been canceled.

This is a bittersweet one.

I (Aly) was given the unexpected opportunity to make my Broadway debut this fall as Anne Hathaway in @andjulietbway – something I didn’t expect to come my way, and ultimately an opportunity I knew I couldn’t pass up.

Unfortunately, that means we won’t be able to play our November + December tour dates as planned. We’re so sorry to everyone who was looking forward to these shows. We were too, and we don’t take for granted the time, travel and planning that goes into coming to see us.

Thank you for understanding and for continuing to be along for the ride with us.
