‘Magic’ Lyrics: Hailee Steinfeld Surprise Releases New The Cars Cover for ‘Hexed’ Movie – Listen Now!

Hailee Steinfeld is back with new music!

The 29-year-old actress just released a newly recorded version of The Cars‘ hit “Magic” for her upcoming animated film, Hexed.

“I’m so proud of this record & all that went into making it,” Hailee shared on her Instagram story on Friday (October 23).

“Magic” will be featured on the upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios film’s soundtrack, which will be out on November 20th.

The song was originally released by The Cars on their fifth studio album, Heartbeat City, in 1984. It was written by one of the band’s lead singers, Ric Ocasek.

This marks Hailee‘s first music release of 2026. Her last song, “Dangerous,” came out in April 2025 and was also for a movie she starred in, Sinners. Prior to that, she released a single, “SunKissing,” in 2023.

Earlier this year, the new mom revealed she had no plans to make music, so “Magic” is a nice surprise!

[Intro]
That’s right

[Verse 1]
Summer
It turns me upside-down
Summer, summer, summer
It’s like a merry-go-round
I see you under the midnight
All shackles and bows
The high shoes with the cleats, they’re clicking
A temperamental glow
Oh, don’t let me go

[Pre-Chorus]
I’ve got a hold on you
I’ve got a hold on you
I’ve got a hold on you tonight
Oh, I’ve got a hold on you
I’ve got a hold on you (I’ve got a hold on you)
That’s right

[Chorus]
Oh-oh, it’s magic
When I’m with you (Oh, it’s magic)
Oh-oh, it’s magic (Just a little magic)
You know it’s true
I’ve got a hold on you

[Verse 2]
All twisted
Under, sideways, down
I know you’re getting twisted
And you can’t calm down
I see you under the midnight
The love that’s in your eyes
How far can you take it
‘Til you realize
There’s magic in your eyes?

[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, I’ve got a hold on you
I’ve got a hold on you
I’ve got a hold on you tonight
Yeah, I’ve got a hold on you
I’ve got a hold on you (I’ve got a hold on you)
Yeah, yeah

[Chorus]
Oh-oh, it’s magic
When I’m with you (Oh, it’s magic)
Oh-oh, it’s magic (Just a little magic)
You know it’s true
I’ve got a hold on you

[Outro]
Oh, come on
It’s magic, it’s magic (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
It’s magic when I’m with you (Woo)
It’s magic (It’s magic), it’s magic (It’s magic)
It’s magic, oh, when I’m with you
Oh-oh, it’s magic (It’s magic, it’s magic)
When I’m with you (Oh, when I’m with you)
Oh-oh, it’s magic (Just a little magic)
You know it’s true
