James Marsden to Lead Apple TV Thriller Series ‘Disavowed’ From ‘Iron Man’ Writers

James Marsden is set to star in the thriller series “Disavowed” at Apple TV, Variety has learned.

The logline for the show states that it follows “legendary CIA Case Officer Brad Griffin (Marsden), who is abruptly fired in the middle of a global hunt for an elusive assassin responsible for killing his colleague. Disgraced and outcast from the world of intelligence, all bets are off when Brad decides to go after the 15 million dollar federal bounty on the assassin’s head.”

The show is based on an original idea from Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who also serve as executive producers. Tom Spezialy and Marsden will also executive produce. Blue Marble Pictures produces, with Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity serving as executive producers. Apple Studios will also produce.

The role keeps Marsden at Apple, where he recently joined the second season of the hit series “Your Friends & Neighbors” in the role of Owen Ashe. His other recent TV credits include the popular Hulu drama “Paradise” and the Amazon series “Jury Duty,” both of which earned him Emmy nominations. He has also starred in shows like “Westworld,” “Dead to Me,” and “30 Rock.” In film, he is known for his work in the “X-Men” franchise as Cyclops — a role he will reprise in “Avengers: Doomsday” — as well as the “Sonic the Hedgehog” films and “Enchanted” among several others.

Marcum and Holloway were two of the credited writers on “Iron Man” starring Robert Downey Jr. from director Jon Favreau. The film grossed over $585 million at the global box office in 2008 and formed the bedrock for what became the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They have also written films like “Uncharted” starring Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland and “Kraven the Hunter” starring Aaron Taylor Johnson.

Marsden is repped by CAA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Marcum and Holloway are repped by CAA and Untitled.
