The upcoming fifth season of Apple TV’s The Morning Show is getting a buzzy new addition: actress-singer Reneé Rapp. She has been tapped for a major recurring role, playing Samantha, a young rising star in the UBN news division determined to make it in media on her own terms.

Rapp’s screen acting career got off to a flying start — her two credits to date are a lead role on the HBO Max series The Sex Lives Of College Girls and reprising her starring role from the Broadway production of Mean Girls in its movie adaptation.

Rapp left Sex Lives after Season 2 to focus on her music career and has been entirely dedicated to it since, releasing two albums and touring, which raised questions about whether she would ever return to acting.

She will now do so opposite The Morning Show stars and executive producers Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston as one of several big names added for Season 5, including Jeff Daniels and Jesse Williams.

Along with Aniston and Witherspoon, the ensemble cast of The Morning Show includes Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie and Jon Hamm. The series, which hails from television studio Media Res, is showrun and executive produced by Charlotte Stoudt, and directed and executive produced by Mimi Leder.

Rapp is reprped by repped by WME and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
