Phoebe Dynevor is continuing to build a diverse and robust upcoming slate as she is set to star in the UK Amazon original series Dirty, an eight-episode series that will appear on Prime Video. Matt Charman created the show and will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer alongside Foz Allan.
The show is set in Manchester, England and follows a mother and daughter who also serve on the police force and see each other as their biggest obstacle on the job. Dynevor is from Manchester, and sources close to the project said she had a distinct connection to the show after reading the script. The city is a character unto itself in the series, and it was important to Charman that the leads understood that as well.
When coming up with the idea for the show, Charman saw his own wife and daughter’s relationship and how close it was,. He began to wonder what would happen if it wasn’t so close, and what dynamics would result in such a relationship — especially if they were both police officers.
Insiders say Charman had always wanted to work with Dynevor after being blown away by her performance in the Netflix thriller Fair Play. When the search for the daughter role began, Dynevor was the first choice, and following that first meeting Charman knew they had their lead.
Charman has desribed the show as “Michael Mann does Manchester” and insiders say everyone was impressed by not just the questions Dynevor was asking about the character but also about the scale of the show and how the city played a part.
Charman is currently on a search for the actor to play Dynevor’s mom. The hope is to land her soon.
Dynevor is coming off a busy 2025 and was most recently seen starring in Lionsgate’s dystopian drama Anniversary, directed by Jan Komasa. Her upcoming slate includes the Netflix survival thriller Thrash. which bows next month. Bowing later this year is A24’s Famous in which she stars opposite Zac Efron. She also stars opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in M. Night Shyamalan’s Remain, a romantic drama that Warner Bros releases next Valentine’s Day.
She has also completed production on Pendulum, a thriller from Mark Heyman, on which she stars alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Norman Reedus, and also recently signed on to star in Beach Read for 20th Century.
Dynevor is repped by WME, Luber Roklin and United Agents.
