Ted Lasso fans have been waiting to find out whether Phil Dunster is coming back for the Apple TV series’ fourth season.
Dunster, 33, who plays Jamie Tartt on Ted Lasso, teased a potential return in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the premiere of his new show, Rooster on HBO, in New York City on Tuesday, March 3.
When asked whether he’s been speaking to Hannah Waddingham and Jason Sudeikis about filming and if he has an idea of what fans can expect, Dunster kept his answer simple.
“Yes. Maybe. Maybe,” he replied, noting that he feels “amazing” to hear from them.
“I’m so happy that it’s still in the world, and I love that show so much,” he added. “I can’t wait to watch it.”
Although season 4 of Ted Lasso was announced in March 2025, Deadline reported that Dunster would not be returning due to a scheduling conflict, adding that he could “potentially” have a limited role.

Waddingham, 51, and Sudeikis, 50, will be reprising their lead roles. Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple and Brendan Hunt are also set to return. Given the cast adjustment, there will also be some new faces in the mix.
“I also have met a fair few of the people involved in it,” Dunster told PEOPLE. “And, man, I just think it’s going to be brilliant. I really do. And it’s got plenty of the stuff that people love about the show and will come back wanting. They’ll get that.”
“But, then there’s just loads of new fresh meat, some new blood, and they’re brilliant. They’re so funny,” he said.
Dunster, who was spotted on the Ted Lasso set in September, also gave some insight into why he was there during Today‘s March 5 episode, via TV Insider.
“My wife [Ellie Heydon] directed on this season, which I’m incredibly excited about,” he explained. “And so, I got to be a party to what was going on. I got sneak peeks.”

Season 3 left off with titular character Ted (Sudeikis) heading back to the U.S. to be with his son. Roy (Goldstein) took over AFC Richmond in his place, seemingly ending the story there. However, the beloved coach is going back to the U.K.
“Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team,” the season 4 synopsis reads. “Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”
While a release date has not been confirmed, Deadline reported that season 4 would premiere this summer.
Rooster premiered on HBO on March 8.
