Letra de ‘Father Figure’: Taylor Swift aparentemente canta sobre mentor que a desprezou e o drama de Scooter Braun

A nova música de Taylor Swift, “Father Figure”, será definitivamente uma das faixas mais comentadas de seu álbum The Life of a Showgirl.

A quarta música do álbum interpola a icônica canção homônima de George Michael, e ele até tem créditos pela composição.

“Father Figure” parece ser contada da perspectiva de alguém que foi mentor de Taylor… e achamos que sabemos de quem se trata.

Taylor parece estar cantando sobre seu antigo chefe de gravadora, Scott Borchetta, e como ele vendeu suas masters para Scooter Braun, o que a levou a regravar seus seis primeiros álbuns (embora dois desses relançamentos ainda não tenham sido lançados).

A rivalidade de Taylor com Scooter começou em 2019, quando a empresa do magnata da música, Ithaca Holdings, adquiriu sua antiga gravadora, Big Machine, que incluía as gravações master de seus seis primeiros álbuns. Na época, Taylor afirmou que não teve uma oportunidade justa de comprar as músicas.

A Ithaca vendeu o catálogo de Taylor para a Shamrock Capital em 2020 por US$ 300 milhões, e essa empresa vendeu as músicas de volta para Taylor em maio de 2025.

A nova música, “Father Figure”, parece ser principalmente sobre Scott.

“Eu serei sua figura paterna / Eu bebo aquele licor marrom / Posso fazer acordos com o diabo / porque meu pau é maior / Este amor é puro lucro / Basta entrar no meu escritório / Eu seco suas lágrimas com a minha manga / Deixe comigo / Eu protejo a família”, canta Taylor.

Ela aparentemente aborda as consequências mais adiante na música, quando o refrão muda para: “Eu era sua figura paterna / Nós bebemos aquele licor marrom / Você fez um acordo com esse diabo / Acontece que meu pau é maior… Você puxou o gatilho errado / Este império me pertence / Deixe comigo / Eu protejo a família”.
