Demi Lovato is ready to hit the road again.
During an event in support of her cookbook, One Plate at a Time: Recipes for Finding Freedom with Food, the 33-year-old singer said she’s excited to kick off her It’s Not That Deep tour in April.
“It’s really amazing to be in this era right now,” Lovato told Eli Rallo at 92NY in New York City on March 17.
“It’s very celebratory, very fun,” she continued. “I mean, that was really what the essence of the album was, was a reflection of where I’m at in my life today, which is I’m happier than ever, and I wanted my music to reflect that.”

Going back on tour for the first time in years has brought about mixed emotions for Lovato.
“I’m very, very, very excited and a little overwhelmed, a little nervous, but I’m very excited, and I can’t wait to see everybody on the road,” the singer said.
“I can’t wait to play music from It’s Not That Deep, but also songs that you are all already familiar with,” Lovato said, referencing her most recent album.
She also teased: “And there’s the potential to be playing even newer music.”
As for a song she’s most excited to sing in front of her fans, Lovato said “Sorry to Myself,” from It’s Not That Deep, stands out.
“It kind of ties in with the messaging of this cookbook,” she explained. (One Plate at a Time is inspired by Lovato’s ongoing recovery from an eating disorder.)
“I went through so much, and I kind of put myself through hell for a long time, and I’m sorry to myself for that,” the Grammy nominee added. “But it’s about taking charge and reclaiming the narrative.”

Lovato spoke exclusively with PEOPLE in February about her It’s Not That Deep tour. She opened up about the toll traveling to perform takes, and why she had considered stopping touring altogether.

“I think what’s difficult for people to understand is how taxing it can be on the body, on the mind, so that’s the reason, probably, why I said that,” she told PEOPLE. “It’s just a lot of work.”
“But the reward of playing in front of your fans and getting to see their reactions to my new music, to older songs … it’s the feeling when I see a fan crying through a smile because they’re so excited to be there,” Lovato continued.
“As hard as touring can be, it is so much fun, and that’s what I’m looking forward to, is the connection with my fans,” she added.
