Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff are getting a divorce.

The exes, who first started dating in 2021 and married in August 2023, separated earlier this year after nearly three years of marriage. On Friday, Oct. 30, Qualley, 32, and Antonoff, 42, officially filed for divorce, a source close to the pair tells PEOPLE.

“Jack and Margaret are filing for divorce jointly,” says the source, noting that while New York State requires both a plaintiff and defendant to be listed on a divorce filing, the move is an uncontested, mutually agreed divorce. “This is a mutual decision.”

The source adds, “They share a deep affinity and love for one another, and though their romantic partnership is ending, they will absolutely be lifelong friends.”

PEOPLE broke the news on July 8 that the couple had split, before Qualley’s rep confirmed the breakup to PEOPLE on July 10. “The narratives running in the press about Margaret and Jack are categorically untrue. There are no trust issues. There was no infidelity or anything outside of respect and partnership in this relationship,” began a statement.

“They have deep love and care for one another,” continued the actress’ rep at the time. “There are only two people in this marriage, and the sources who are talking to the press and commenting on their relationship are not people who know them. Please respect their privacy.”

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Antonoff spoke about how it has felt to perform tracks written about his relationship with Qualley in the wake of their split. In May, his band, Bleachers, released a new album called Everyone for Ten Minutes featuring several songs about the relationship.

“Songs which I wrote recently, I obviously was really worried about this specific thing,” he explained. “I sat long and hard with it and thought, ‘If I change the setlist …’ and in my gut there was a unanimous jury that said, ‘No, this is the deal. The deal I’ve made with my audience is that I’m going to tell you honestly how I feel and I’m going to risk at any moment having to stand behind it for f—ing ever.’ ”

The Grammy-winning producer said that “anyone could relate to the terrible sadness and pain, but there’s a great power to it also.”

“It’s actually been really beautiful,” Antonoff said of performing the songs. “I mean, for people to come together, to know what I write a song about, to know how that must feel for me now, to know what that song means to you as an audience member, to just hold it all and sort of celebrate.”

The “Don’t Take the Money” artist further explained why he chooses to perform the songs. “I don’t rewrite the past, I have no shame about the things I’ve said,” he said. “My life has been dedicated to making it impossible for me to rewrite the past, because I’m standing there, singing about how I felt during the good times, so when the bad times hit I can’t look myself in the mirror and pretend that those times didn’t exist.”

Antonoff continued, “I would rather live through something publicly than even escape it privately.”
