KJ Apa Celebrates New Movie ‘Jimmy’ with Special Screening Hosted by Cinema Society in NYC

KJ Apa is stepping out to promote his new movie!

The 29-year-old actor attended a special screening of his new movie Jimmy hosted by Burns & Co. Entertainment and The Cinema Society on Tuesday night (October 21) at the SAG-AFTRA Theater in New York City.

Joining KJ at the screening were his co-stars Max Casella and Jen Lilley. Director Aaron Burns was also in attendance along with producers Angela Galgani Sullivan and Jack McClintock.

Following the screening, the stars and guests celebrated at an after-party held at The Skylark.

KJ stars as It’s a Wonderful Life icon Jimmy Stewart in the upcoming biopic. Jimmy follows the late actor’s decision to become a combat pilot and commander in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II after winning the Best Actor Oscar for The Philadelphia Story, per Variety.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, KJ spoke about capturing Jimmy’s distinct voice.

“The goal is to give an honest performance while not being impressionistic,” the Riverdale actor explained. “I think when you’re doing an impression or an impersonation, there isn’t as much happening behind the impression, and I think that’s where, when you interpret something, it’s more of an interpretation.”

In the new movie, Max plays It’s a Wonderful Life director Frank Capra while Jen plays Jimmy’s wife Gloria Stewart.

The film also stars Kara Killmer as Lady Julia, Neal McDonough as Jimmy’s father Alexander, Jason Alexander as Louis B. Mayer, Christopher McDonald as Lionel Barrymore, Sarah Drew as Hedda Hopper, Rob Riggle as Colonel Terrill, and Julian Works as Second Lieutenant Martinez with Variety journalist Marc Malkin also making a cameo appearance as band leader Glenn Miller. Karolyn Grimes, who was five years old when she played Zuzu Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life, also makes a cameo.

Jimmy hits theaters on November 6. Watch the trailer here!
