MGK and Dakota Johnson Have Same ‘Dry and Dark’ Sense of Humor but ‘Aren’t Ready to Go Official Yet’: Source

The pair was first spotted out together in September

Dakota Johnson and MGK connect over their sense of humor.

One month after the actress and the musician were spotted out together in New York City, a source close to MGK (born Colson Baker) tells PEOPLE the pair is “spending more time together.”

“They have been out on dates that people don’t know about because there aren’t any photos,” the source says, adding that MGK, 36, and Johnson, 37, are in the “dating phase” but “aren’t ready to go official yet.”

“They both really like each other and have been seeing each other more frequently,” the source adds of the two, who were seen together in Los Angeles on Thursday, Oct. 15. “They haven’t put a label on their relationship yet, but they’re growing closer every time they hang out.”

Over the past few months, the couple has connected over their “same dry and dark sense of humor” and they “make each other laugh,” the source concludes.

Reps for Johnson and MGK, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

In September, another MGK source told PEOPLE the two had been hanging out “under the radar” for months.

Per the insider, they had met before but really “hit it off” at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s wedding at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in July. 

“It’s a very new start, but they’re smitten with each other right now,” the source said.

MGK and Johnson first sparked dating rumors when they were photographed out together in N.Y.C. on Sept. 12. They were spotted arriving at Swift’s apartment together and then returning to a hotel.

The Verity star was last romantically linked to musician Role Model. However, in August, a source exclusively confirmed that the actress and “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out” singer, 29, had ended their relationship “a while ago.”

She also previously dated Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, 49, in an on-and-off relationship from October 2017 until June 2025. The couple was reportedly engaged for “years.”

MGK was last romantically linked to actress Megan Fox, to whom he was previously engaged. The pair are now strictly co-parents to their 19-month-old daughter Saga Blade, PEOPLE confirmed earlier this year.
