Ethan Hawke & Drew Barrymore Met for the First Time on Her Talk Show: What They Said

Ethan Hawke and Drew Barrymore are iconic Hollywood stars, but the two actors recently revealed that they had never actually met before appearing together on The Drew Barrymore Show.

Ethan appeared on the Friday (October 16) episode to discuss the second season of his FX series The Lowdown, which premiered on Wednesday night. During their conversation, the topic turned to their long careers and the fact that they had somehow never crossed paths in person.

Ethan Hawke couldn’t believe they never dated

The Sinister star told Drew that he had been aware of her throughout his life, even saying, “I can’t remember a time in my life when I was not aware of you.”

The talk show host echoed his sentiments, adding that she, too, had always known about him, prompting Ethan to say he was surprised they’d never dated.

“What I can’t believe is that we never dated, you know? I mean…” he said.

“Where were you?” Drew playfully responded, “And by the way what me and every other girl on the planet wouldn’t have given to date you. Where the hell were you?”

Nothing ever happened between them

Ethan joked that he wanted to “play it cool” and let something happen naturally, which is why he never called her.

“And look what happened — nothing!” Drew said, with the Before Sunrise alum adding, “We’re meeting on a talk show.”

Ethan is now married to his wife, Ryan, and they have been since 2008. Before that, he was married to Uma Thurman and he shares daughter Maya Hawke and son Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke with the Kill Bill star.
