Meghan Markle’s First Official Appearance Since Returning to the UK Is All About British Fashion
Her outfit nodded to her first ever royal engagement in Nottingham.

Meghan Markle joined Prince Harry in Nottingham today, their first joint public appearance since moving back to the UK in late August, though Meghan has shared a series of photographs and videos of their family on her Instagram page in recent weeks. For the occasion, Meghan wore all British designers, including a Joseph coat and turtleneck, skirt by The Fold, and shoes by designer Jennifer Chamandi. She also carried a Joseph handbag.

Instead of her engagement ring, she wore her simple Welsh gold wedding band along with a Logan Hollowell gold and diamond sleeve over her Oura ring.

Her outfit today nods what she wore in December 2017, during her first-ever royal engagement in Nottingham, when she also chose a Joseph skirt. While today’s look is different color palette, the silhouette of the jacket layered over a turtleneck and skirt is strikingly similar.

It’s been a busy few weeks for the Sussexes. On Sunday, Meghan’s brand As Ever supported the Malala Fund for International Day of the Girl, and she released a sweatshirt with MOM (Moms Offering More). In addition, As Ever recently started rolling out their holiday collection, including an advent calendar inspired by Meghan and Harry’s Montecito home. Harry, meanwhile, has carried out a series of solo engagements and released a MasterClass on grief.
Their joint appearance is notable, as Prince Harry has previously been vocal about his security concerns. In September, the Telegraph reported Prince Harry and Meghan will now receive a new security review from the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), part of the UK’s Home Office that determines who receives taxpayer-funded police protection. It’s unclear if that review has been completed yet.
Last year, Harry lost a legal appeal against the Home Office when his automatic security was withdrawn. “The UK is my home,” he said in his witness statement. “The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the U.S. That cannot happen if it’s not possible to keep them safe when they are on UK soil. I cannot put my wife in danger like that and, given my experiences in life, I am reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too.” It’s unclear whether their security changed before the Sussexes decided move back to the UK.
