Kacey Musgraves Fires Back at Kristi Noem With Dog-Shooting Reference After Country Music Diss
Kacey Musgraves is firing back at Kristi Noem after the former Homeland Security Secretary criticized her on social media.
The 38-year-old country singer responded to Kristi on Monday (October 12) after Texas Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico attended her concert in Dallas over the weekend.
James attended Kacey‘s Middle of Nowhere Tour show on Saturday (October 10) and shared photos of the two together afterward.
“Thank you for having me last night, Kacey Musgraves!” he wrote on social media.
However, Kristi wasn’t impressed.
“I’ll take @ellalangleymsic over Kacey Musgraves any day. And if I’m choosin’ Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico,” she wrote on X, referencing country singer Ella Langley and James‘ Republican opponent in the Texas Senate race.
Kacey then responded with a reference to one of Kristi‘s past controversies.
“I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it,” she wrote on X.
Why Did Kacey Musgraves Reference Kristi Noem’s Dog?
Kacey‘s response appears to reference Kristi‘s admission that she shot and killed her family’s dog, Cricket.
Kristi shared the story in her 2024 memoir, No Going Back, explaining that the 14-month-old dog had behaved aggressively during a hunting trip, including attacking chickens and attempting to bite her.
The revelation drew widespread criticism at the time, although Kristi defended her decision and said she believed she was acting responsibly.
Kacey‘s response came after James attended her Dallas concert and shared photos from the event.
Ella, whose song “Choosin’ Texas” was referenced in Kristi‘s post, was not part of the social media exchange.
