FKA twigs has resolved her latest legal dispute with ex-boyfriend Shia LaBeouf and is now free to speak about her alleged experiences with the actor.

In an Oct. 5 filing in Los Angeles County Superior Court, twigs, 38, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, requested the dismissal of her case against LaBeouf, 40, after the two resolved a dispute over a confidentiality provision in their settlement agreement.

“Twigs stood up for something larger than herself, all female survivors of sexual abuse,” her attorney Mathew Rosengart tells PEOPLE. “On the heels of Mr. LaBeouf’s now dismissed, failed December 2025 arbitration against twigs, this important victory completely frees her to discuss her experience, advocate for other women who might be less privileged, and support the charitable causes of her choice.”

LaBeouf’s lawyer Shawn Holley tells PEOPLE in a statement, “Shia wishes twigs nothing but the best in her life and career and, to that end, has agreed to end their long-standing dispute. Twigs has spoken about this matter for years and there is now nothing to prevent her from continuing to do so.”

According to the filing, LaBeouf agreed that the disputed nondisclosure provisions “are terminated and void,” allowing twigs to speak about her experiences and support charitable causes “without fear of reprisal.”

The dispute stemmed from a lawsuit twigs filed against LaBeouf in December 2020. The former couple dated from around July 2018 to May 2019. Twigs accused LaBeouf of sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress, among other claims. LaBeouf denied the allegations.

Twigs and LaBeouf reached a settlement in July 2025. At the time, they said in a joint statement that they had agreed to settle the matter out of court and wished each other “personal happiness, professional success and peace in the future.”

A dispute later emerged over whether twigs could publicly discuss her alleged experiences.

According to twigs’ amended complaint, LaBeouf filed an arbitration demand against her in December 2025 after she was asked in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter whether she felt “safe.”

“No, I wouldn’t say I feel safe,” twigs responded, according to the complaint. She said she was passionate about working with organizations including Sistah Space and No More “to help survivors in any way that I can.”

“I think it’s less about me at this point and more about looking forward,” she added. “Just, you know, moving on with my life.”

LaBeouf alleged that the comments violated the confidentiality provisions of their settlement agreement and sought monetary damages from twigs, according to her complaint.

Twigs argued that the provisions were unlawful and unenforceable under California’s Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act, known as the STAND Act, which restricts confidentiality provisions involving claims of sexual misconduct. She also alleged that the agreement could prevent her from speaking more broadly about sexual abuse or advocating for other survivors.

As part of her case, twigs submitted a declaration from former California state Sen. Connie M. Leyva, who authored the STAND Act.

Leyva said the law was intended to prevent alleged perpetrators of sexual abuse from using confidential agreements to silence alleged survivors. She also disputed the argument that its protections did not extend to sexual battery.

Twigs asked the court to declare the disputed confidentiality provisions unlawful, unenforceable and void.
