Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick Step Out with Son Travis Bacon for ‘Family Night’ Out at Their Film’s New York Premiere

The family’s comedy-horror film ‘Family Night’ is set for release in April 2027

Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and their son Travis Bacon know all about family.

On Wednesday, Aug. 19, the trio stepped out for the New York premiere of Family Movie as it made its debut at the Scary Movies XIV showcase at Film at Lincoln Center.

The campy horror-comedy is co-directed by Bacon, 68, and Sedgwick, 61, and stars the longtime couple and co-directors alongside their children Sosie and Travis, 37. 

The project was first announced in November 2024. 

“It’s official!! #FamilyMovie will officially be releasing in theaters April 23, 2027! We can’t wait to share this with all of you. Stay tuned!” Bacon captioned a joint Instagram upload on Wednesday, tagging his family. 

His post contained a screenshot of a Deadline article with promo images from the film. 

Family Movie “follows a filmmaking family, the Smiths, and their low-budget horror movie which turns into a real-life slasher when a dead body shows up on set,” according to the outlet. “Chaos ensues as the Smiths fight to keep the production on track.”

The outing also fell on Sedgwick’s birthday. 

“Happy birthday @kyrasedgwickofficial, to another year of loving you 🤍,” Bacon captioned a sweet Instagram compilation video of the couple (and their farm animals!) enjoying time together over the years, set to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Stupid Song.”

Travis also shared a social media tribute with a single photo of him as a baby, running on set as he playfully recalled how he “ruined” a photo shoot his parents did when he was younger.

Sosie, who was not present at the Scary Movies XIV showcase, captioned a photo of herself and Sedgwick: “Happy birthday my queen. Leo ♌️ warrior. Fierce and goofy. Always makes me giggle. Loyal. Always there for everyone she loves. She’s a goddess among us. We’re so lucky to have you, mommy.”

In March, while speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at SXSW, Sosie joked that she didn’t have to audition to be in Family Movie.

“They suggested that the four of us do a movie together. We wanted it to be comedy, horror kind of energy. We met with a couple of writers. Dan [Beers] was just the right man for the job,” Sosie added of the film’s screenwriter.

Bacon also spoke to PEOPLE about what it was like directing with his wife for the first time in nearly two decades.

“It was a pretty familiar place to step back into, and to have my partner (Sedgwick) co-directing with me was just great because if I missed something or I slipped up or I forgot some detail, she was right there with it,” he said in March.

Family Movie is set for an April 2027 release.
