George and Amal Clooney Forced to Evacuate Home in France as Wildfires Burn: ‘We Love Brignoles and Our Friends Who Live There’

George and Amal Clooney have evacuated their home in France amid the ongoing wildfires across Europe.

The couple and their 9-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, live in the town of Brignoles, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southeastern France. Currently, their home is in one of the many regions where wildfires are spreading across France, Spain, Italy and Greece.

The married couple announced their evacuation in a letter to the mayor of Brignoles, a representative for Clooney confirmed. “Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” the letter began.

“As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and i are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole,” the letter continued. “We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”

The dangerous fires in France are currently four times the size of Paris, the Associated Press reports.

Around 224,000 people were evacuated in the Gironde region of France and another 3,000 in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, per CNN. Meanwhile, at least 63,152 people were evacuated in Spain. The fires have killed two firefighters in Greece, per Reuters.

George, 64, and Amal, 48, have kept their personal life private, but in an October 2025 interview with Esquire, the actor opened up about the decision to have their primary residence at a farm in France. George owns an estate in England, a villa on Lake Como in Italy, and another property near his family in Kentucky.

“A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it,” he explained. “But now, for them, it’s like—they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”

He admitted that he was “worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood.”

“I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life,” he said. “France — they kind of don’t give a s— about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”

But months before, in February 2025, he told The New York Times he never imagined that their primary residence would be a country house. “Growing up in Kentucky, all I wanted to do was get away from a farm, get away from that life,” he said. “Now I find myself back in that life. I drive a tractor and all those things. It’s the best chance at a normal life.”
