Booyakasha!

Sacha Baron Cohen has wrapped production on a new Ali G film, which will bring his sketch comedy breakout to back to big screen. The character was previously featured in 2002’s “Ali G Indahouse.”

The film was shot in secret, much like Cohen operated on 2006’s “Borat” and 2020’s “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” two of his most popular movies. Cohen also brought another of his sketch characters to cinemas with 2009’s “Brüno.” As fans of the comedian know, Ali G is a streetwise interviewer whose hip hop slang often bewilders guests such as Noam Chomsky, Andy Rooney and Newt Gingrich. The character originally appeared on Channel 4’s “The 11 O’Clock Show” before becoming the title character of “Da Ali G Show” in the early 2000s. He earned a following in the U.S. when the program aired on HBO.

A spokesperson for Cohen declined to comment. Cohen’s credits include his Oscar-nominated turn as Abbie Hoffman in “The Trial of the Chicago 7.” He has also starred in “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “The Dictator,” “Hugo,” “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” “Les Misérables” and several “Madagascar” films.

Cohen recently appeared in the Netflix film “Ladies First” and “Balls Up.” On streaming, he also starred opposite Kevin Kline and Cate Blanchett in Alfonso Cuarón’s “Disclaimer” for Apple+. Cohen created the 2019 sketch show “Who is America,” earning Emmy nominations in the process. He was also Emmy nominated for “Da Ali G Show” and nominated for Oscars for the scripts for both “Borat” films.

The Insneider broke the news that an Ali G film had been completed.
